Remove Windows Live Messenger

How to Uninstall Windows Live Messenger 9

"I can't uninstall Live Messenger - I installed Live Messenger 9 and didn't like it at all - I wish to uninstall it". This message is appearing all over the internet, i myself had a terrible problem removing it but in the end found the way.. It seemed that there was no uninstall archive to remove the program with, i looked in the folder in program files but to no avail. In the end the solution was as easy as pushing a button though! The fault lies as usual with Microsofts stupid assuming attitude that they think that just because they know where they put the uninstall option, that the consumer also knows. For this reason they stupidly place the option invisible so that you will never see it unless you click on the windows live essentials icon in the "add or remove programs" section of the control panel on your pc.
Below is a series of graphic explanations of what to click on and how to remove Windows Live Messenger
1. Open Control Panel\ Add or Remove Programs\ Windows Live Essentials

2. The uninstall interface will open, giving you the option to either uninstall both messenger and live mail, or just messenger - choose your preffered option and press continue

3. Done - don't forget to run a registry scan to check for any remaining entries or shortcuts that might have escaped removal, restart PC and Presto! problem solved!
I hope this info proves useful to you all.

  1. Had the same problem, though with the full release, not the beta. The add/remove on Live Essentials would not work! Tried everything I could think of. I then realised that I had only installed Messenger. I went to http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger and installed a couple of other Live apps. After I did that, the uninstall page came up and I was able to uninstall the lot and install Messenger 8.1!
